Printer Shipment, Arrival & Receiving
The Carbon Printer is packed in a large wooden crate. When the printer arrives, you will need a loading dock and pallet jack or forklift to receive it.
Printer Crate | Measurement | Weight |
---|---|---|
M1/M2 | 43 x 52 x 80 in 108 x 132 x 204 cm | 700 lbs 318 kg |
M3 | 36 x 45 x 83 in 91.5 x 114.5 x 211 cm | 750 lbs 340 kg |
M3 Max | 36 x 45 x 83 in 91.5 x 114.5 x 211 cm | 805 lbs 365 kg |
Carbon Field Service Engineers will oversee the unpacking of M1/M2 printers. M3/M3 Max printers will be unpacked by the customer. Use the following information to ensure that adequate space is available for uncrating.
Before the printer arrives, plan and mark off floor space to provide 1.6 m (64") wide x 4.7 m (184") deep x 2.1 m (84") of clearance.

- Identify the removable panel by its locking hinges.

- Provide about 4 meters (12 feet) of clearance on the side with the green arrow above. The crate should be positioned with about 3 meters (10 feet) of clearance so the door of the crate may be converted into a ramp to allow the printer to roll into position easily. Make sure the floor between this side of the crate and the lab space is flat to ensure smooth rolling.

- The crated M3 / M3 Max Printer should be moved as close as possible to the final installation location using a forklift or pallet jack.
- The working area to uncrate the printer needs to be at least 1.6 m (5.3') wide x 3.4 m (11') deep x 2.1 m (7') high.
- This area needs to be larger to remove the crate shell during uncrating (the recommended method).
- Although it is possible to uncrate with the crate shell on the base, it is much easier with the crate shell removed.
- Please make sure to have 2 facilities staff available to uncrate the printer.
- If your facility does not have an entry into the building large enough to accommodate the printer’s wooden crate, special arrangements can be made to uncrate the printer outside and then move it inside your facility. Please make arrangements in advance with Carbon’s Onboarding Team.
- Your M3 / M3 Max Printer is equivalent in size and weight to a large refrigerator. Once uncrated, move the printer by rolling on casters whenever possible. Use a hand truck (see Facility Requirements M3 or Facility Requirements M3 Max for more info) only if moving the uncrated printer over a lip taller than 1/8". Please make arrangements for moving and installation support if needed.
- IMPORTANT: You will need to store the printer crate (all models) and caster wheels (M1/M2 Printer only). You will need these items if your printer needs to be relocated or for when you return your printer at the end of your subscription. If you are unable to store these items, you will need to pay Carbon to replace them.
Your facility can follow the instructions (M1/M2 or M3/M3 Max ) to uncrate the printer to bring it inside; the shipping company is not responsible for uncrating the printer. If your facility does not have an entry large enough to accommodate the printer’s wooden crate, special arrangements can be made to uncrate the printer and move it inside your facility.
Please arrange in advance with Carbon’s Onboarding Team.
