Carbon now offers another option for washing parts: Formlabs Form Wash and Form Wash L! These washers are validated to clean DPR 10 models printed on your Carbon printer.
More applications are in the process of validation.
The Formlabs Form Wash and Form Wash L washers clean printed parts using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and magnetically coupled impellers. Parts are automatically lifted out of the solvent after cleaning to help prevent overexposure.

These washers are now validated to wash Carbon-printed parts using the following resins:
- DPR 10
Carbon is in the process of validating more resins. Stay tuned for updates.

In order to use Form Wash and Form Wash L, parts must be removed from the platform and placed into the basket.
The Form Wash and Form Wash L washers are available for purchase at Formlabs website.

Form Wash

Form Wash L
Solid and hollow models printed with DPR 10 are compatible with Form Wash and Form Wash L. Follow Carbon's recommendations below.
Solvent | Wash Time |
---|---|
99% IPA | 5 minutes |
- Remove models from the platform.
- For hollow models, drain excess resin for about 5 minutes before washing.
- Place models in basket in a single layer. Do not stack.
- For hollow models, orient models so the occlusal surface is facing up. This will result in the intaglio surface being oriented down toward the impellers.
- Set wash time to 5 minutes.
- Begin wash cycle.
- When complete, remove parts from basket and continue post processing.

If you have two Form Wash units, you have the option to set up one for primary washes and the other for rinse washes, similar to the workflow with the orbital shaker.
- Remove models from the platform.
- For hollow models, drain excess resin for about 5 minutes before washing.
- Place models in basket of primary washer in a single layer. Do not stack.
- For hollow models, orient models so the occlusal surface is facing up. This will result in the intaglio surface being oriented down toward the impellers.
- Set wash time to 3 minutes.
- Begin wash cycle.
- When complete, remove parts and transfer to basket of rinse washer in a single layer. Do not stack.
- For hollow models, orient models so the occlusal surface is facing up.
- Set wash time to 2 minutes.
- Begin wash cycle.
- When complete, remove parts from basket and continue post processing.
Overloading the washer will compromise cleanliness. Follow the recommendations below to maximize yield.
| M2 / M3 | M3 Max | L1 |
---|---|---|---|
Form Wash | Up to 1 platform of models | Up to half a platform of models | Not recommended |
Form Wash L | Up to 2 platforms of models | Up to 1 platform of models | About a half a platform of models |
Soil load describes the amount of resin in the solvent. The greater the soil load, the less effective the solvent will be.
Consult to Measuring the resin concentration of IPA learn about measuring the soil load in the Form Wash and Form Wash L.
| Form Wash | Form Wash L |
---|---|---|
Maximum Recommended Soil Load | Replace solvent at about 4% soil load | Replace solvent at 2-4% soil load |
Soil load levels are approximate and may change depending on part quantity and geometry.
Carbon recommends testing different solvent levels and solvent replacement times to optimize the washing workflow.
