Safety

Never use flammable solvents like acetone or IPA as a wash solvent.
- Acetone can only be used on the deck and lid seal for maintenance.
- IPA can be used on the deck or exterior painted panels.

Hazardous voltage inside. Disconnect power before servicing. Service by trained Carbon personnel only.

This machine to be operated only by trained personnel in accordance with the Operator’s Manual, safety procedures, and instructions for safe machine operation. Failure to comply with these specified procedures and instructions may impair the safety features of the machine.

Do not use an alternate power cable. Replacing the power cable with an inadequately rated cable can result in electric shock, arc flash, fire, or damage to the equipment.

Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is always required for use. Includes nitrile gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, long pants, and closed toe shoes. Pull back long hair and secure dangling jewelry.
Always keep solvent containers closed to contain solvent fumes and conserve solvent.
- The VF 1 solvent blend is very volatile and evaporates very quickly. Keeping solvent containers closed prevents evaporation thus conserving solvent and saving money.

Clean up any resin spills (including drips) immediately to avoid slippery floors and prevent spreading of resin contamination.
Only use the recommended distiller. It has been designed specifically for reclaiming our distillable solvents safely. Other distillers typically use high heat which can cause volatilization of resin components and will contaminate the solvent.

Watch out for pinch points and bump hazards; beware of spin head and platform latch when cleaning the wash tank mesh filter.
Do not cover chassis ventilation slots or block enclosure openings.

Only use IPA and acetone on your printer’s cassette window, as other solvents will cause immediate, permanent cassette damage.

Installation and Service should only be performed by Carbon personnel. Performing unauthorized repairs or maintenance is prohibited.

Ensure free and easy access to any disconnecting devices.

Emergency stop
- In the case of an emergency, pressing the red knob to the right of the display will immediately stop power to all actuating mechanisms and the internal computer.
- Recovery from pressing the emergency knob will require a reset of the part washer and initialization period before you can start a new wash. See Restart after an Emergency Stop below.
- Upon power and air supply restoration, any solvent in the wash tank (which may have been present during a wash cycle) will be drained into the hold tank so you can safely access your part.
Low-pressure lid closure
- The lid cannot close with enough force to harm the user. If something blocks the travel of the lid for more than 5 seconds, the lid actuation will be disabled. The lid will only close in response to user input (starting a wash cycle or activating the foot switch.)

Site prep
- Sufficient ventilation is required during operation of the part washer and distiller. Ventilation equipment (inlet, ducting, mounting hardware, etc.) is not included with distiller and must be purchased separately and installed before installation.
- See Site Prep Summary: Smart Part Washer for details.
Spill prevention
- Should a failure occur, a secondary containment system within the part washer will hold more than the full solvent volume of internal tanks to prevent solvent from leaking on the floor. If an internal leak is detected, the part washer alarm will sound for 15 minutes and enter Safe Mode until Carbon Support has cleared the alert.

Disabled foot switch
- The foot switch is disabled during the wash cycle to prevent accidentally opening the lid during washing, any time there is solvent in the wash tank or if there is an error/fault.
You may need to abort the wash if:
- A part falls off the platform into the wash tank as the lid is lowering.
- You want to prevent your part from washing.
If you push Abort wash, you will be prompted to confirm this decision before ending your wash.
- You will need to remove your platform from the platform latch and then replace it before you can start new wash.

Caution: If you wash the parts more than once, your mechanical properties may be compromised.

- Release the Emergency stop by twisting clockwise.
- Press the silver Reset button.
- The part washer display will read “Initializing” after every power reset. This is completely normal and generally takes 60 seconds before it is ready to wash your parts.
- If the Emergency stop was pressed during a drain or fill process, close any open manual valves before restoring power.
