Solvents
Three solvents are validated for use with the Smart Part Washer:
- VF 1 (formerly custom Vertrel™ solvent - MS-767-3D-13)
- Only the specific Vertrel formulation VF 1 is compatible with the Smart Part Washer. Other Vertrel™ formulations create a safety hazard, will damage the part washer hardware, and produce unpredictable cleaning.
- VF 1 is the only solvent that can be reclaimed using the recommended distiller.
- 99% Di(propylene glycol) methyl ether (DPM), CAS: 34590-94-8
- Only 99% DPM is compatible with the part washer. Lower solvent purities do not allow the part washer to function properly.
- Dimethyl adipate (DMA) was previously recommended for washing EPX 82 parts. Carbon now recommends DPM.
- Diacetone alcohol (DAA), CAS: 123-42-2
- Only 99+% DAA is compatible with our part washer. Lower solvent purities do not allow the part washer to function properly.
- Only validated for use with dental models printed with the DPR 10 resin.

VF 1 (Formerly custom Vertrel™ solvent - MS-767-3D-13)
Production Solvent
- Non-flammable and highly effective, but also very volatile and expensive.
- Alternate Vertrel solvents are not compatible with Smart Part Washer. VF 1 must be used to prevent damage to hardware.
- Cleans RPU 60/61/70, EPU 40, FPU 50, PR 25, UMA 90, and SIL 30.
- Cleans DPR 10 for non-dental uses.
- Distillation allows reclamation of ~85% of soiled solvent mixture to reduce waste and overall cost.
- Can accommodate 30⎯40 washes before distillation is required.
- The actual number of washes will vary according to resin, part geometry, and total surface area of parts.
VF 1 (formerly custom Vertrel™ solvent - MS-767-3D-13) is only manufactured by MILLER-STEPHENSON CHEMICAL and must be purchased from the suppliers listed here.
VF 1 is currently only available in North America and the European Union.

DPM (99% Di(propylene glycol) methyl ether) CAS: 34590-94-8
Production Solvent
- Non-flammable and relatively viscous.
- Cleans production resins: EPU 40, EPX 82, EPX 86FR, EPX 150, FPU 50, MPU 100, PR 25, RPU 60/61/70/130, SIL 30, and UMA 90.
- Does not clean CE 221.
- Cleans DPR 10 for non-dental uses.
- After washing, parts require 10 second dunk in IPA to displace residual DPM.
- DO NOT DISTILL. Not compatible with distillation. Soiled solvent must be disposed of properly.
- Can accommodate ~150 washes
- The actual number of washes will vary according to resin, part geometry, and total surface area of parts.

DAA (99+% Diacetone alcohol)
Dental Solvent
- Non-flammable solvent.
- Required for washing DPR 10 for dental applications.
- DO NOT DISTILL.Not compatible with distillation. Soiled solvent must be disposed of properly.
- Can accommodate ~200 washes before fresh DAA is required.
- The actual number of washes will vary according to resin, part geometry, and total surface area of parts.

The Smart Part Washer supports switching solvents. However, it is not recommended to switch frequently.
Switching procedures vary according to use case. Contact Carbon Support if you are interested in switching solvents.
Distillation does not recapture all solvent: Approximately 1 gallon is lost during distillation. Additionally, a small amount of solvent is lost during each wash due to evaporation or transfer on the part surface. This adds up to another 1 gallon of solvent loss for each 30⎯ 40 washes.

The VF 1 distiller is required for VF 1 solvent recycling. See Accessories for more information.
DPM cannot be distilled. The part washer must be filled with new solvent only. Soiled solvent must be disposed of according to local regulations.

DAA cannot be distilled. So the part washer must be filled with new solvent only. Soiled solvent must be disposed of according to local regulations.
