New Features

Project name editing in-line

We’ve made it easier to edit project names.

Click on the pencil icon at the top of your project to edit the name. Just use tab, return or click out of the name field to automatically save it. (You no longer need to click into the Project settings menu to make this change.)

Keep supports through a resin change

When you change the resin for a project that contains supports, you will now be able to keep your existing supports (instead of always removing them).

A note: we will not regenerate the supports based on the new resin. The thickness, insertion, break point parameters are all based on the original material you selected. You will always have the option to regenerate supports for the new resin, just select the ‘clear supports’ option and then add supports to the model.

Carbon file security

Carbon projects exported after you update to v1.22 are only usable by your company or Carbon. If you need to share your project with other customers, please select shareable before you export. This will allow a service bureau/contract manufacturer to be able to open your project.

Bug fixes

Improvements for slicing projects with many triangles

You may have seen an error/been unable to slice projects with models with many triangles, especially when you have many parts to which you’ve added part labels (or textures or have latticed).

We have not changed the slices we generate for your projects, but we have made performance improvements so you can more successfully slice large projects. We are continuing to make improvements here, so please let us know if you run into any issues with slicing.

Changes to printing

Parts more accurate in first few slices

For parts printed directly on the platform, we have changed an offset value in our printing so that parts will be more accurate in the z-direction, and the impact is on the order of 100 µm and will make your parts shorter. For parts printed on supports, you won’t notice this change.

Also note: this change does not change resin-based scaling for variable shrinkage.

EPX 82 better characterized

In our ongoing print development work, we’ve better characterized the way EPX 82 behaves when exposed to UV light. We will make this change to the resin parameters on June 18, and you will begin seeing this change in your print times for EPX 82. For thicker walled or taller parts or densely packed-projects, your prints will be 20-30% faster. All of our testing shows that the mechanical properties and accuracy of EPX 82 are unchanged when printing faster. Please let us know if you’d like to understand the impact on any of your parts.

Analytics

Thanks for your use and feedback on our new Analytics feature on your Carbon Dashboard. We are working on more improvements, but you should already see that the reports use your local timezone (as set in your browser).

Create project changes

When you’re creating new projects, you’ll notice a difference in the user experience. After you select your STL’s, you’ll see an uploading progress indicator on the project list page. Once the STL’s are loaded, we’ll open the project, repair files if needed, and you can begin working on your parts.
