Hardware Issues

Smart Part Washer does not power on

  • Confirm the power switch is in the on (I) position and the Emergency stop is not activated. Press the silver reset button on the back of the washer.
  • Contact Carbon Support if problem persists.

Lid does not raise or lower

  • Do not pry open the lid. This will damage your part washer.
  • Press the silver reset button on the back of the washer. Ensure your compressed air is working properly.
  • Ensure lid seal and bowl are free from resin residue. Over time residue build up can cause lid to adhere to bowl.
  • Contact Carbon Support if problem persists.

Buttons are not responsive

Always review the Smart Part Washer display for error messages or alerts before contacting Carbon.

Wash Issues

Parts are not clean enough

  • Inadequate solvent flow across the part (may occur with fence supports, suction cups, or unvented cavities)
    • Reprint parts and increase wash cycle intensity. Gentle → Default or Default → Extreme.
    • Perform spot clean with IPA and swab or wipe.
  • Sub-optimal part orientation
    • Reorient parts to enable greater solvent flow.
  • Sub-optimal part placement on platform
    • Reposition parts away from the center of the platform and place them close to the edge.

Platform comes loose during washing

  • Abort the wash.
  • To prevent further occurrences, be sure to push platform all the way into the platform latch. Tap platform after initial installation to ensure proper locking.

CAUTION: If you wash the part more than once, your mechanical properties may be compromised.

Parts fall off the platform during wash cycle

  • Reach into the wash tank with gloves and remove parts from the wash tank mesh screen filter.
  • Reprint part and try washing using a lower intensity wash cycle.
  • Consider changing the print orientation or adding supports to stabilize your part.

Loss of power during the wash cycle

  • Restore power as quickly as possible.
    • First, confirm the emergency stop button is not activated.
    • Then, try the silver reset button on the back of the part washer.
    • If power does not come on, turn the power switch off and back on, then push the silver reset button.
  • Once power is restored, solvent will drain from the wash tank.
  • Be aware that during the loss of power, parts may be submerged in solvent longer than recommended, leading to lower mechanical properties.

CAUTION: If you wash the part more than once, your mechanical properties may be compromised.

Solvent Issues

Solvent is leaking externally

  • Confirm the drain and fill valves are closed. Press the Emergency stop.
  • Call Carbon Support immediately using the Support line, 1 (650) 285-6307, option 2.

Solvent is leaking internally

  • A warning buzzer will sound. After 15 minutes, the front panel will shut off. The part washer will be unusable until Carbon diagnoses and repairs any issues.
    • The platform must be removed from the Smart Part Washer before the front panel shuts off, otherwise the platform (and parts) will be trapped in the part washer until it is repaired.
  • Call Carbon Support immediately using the Support line, 1 (650) 285-6307, option 2.

Smart Part Washer is not filling or draining

  • Check your hose connections. Contact Carbon if problem persists.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient clean solvent in carboy/drum: 7.5 gallons is required.

Software Issues

Print project information is not loading when the platform is inserted

  • Check your ethernet cable to make sure it is connected.
  • Verify that you have internet connectivity on the local network.
  • If connectivity cannot be restored, the part washer still has washing capability.
    • The washer will not have access to the print data including the type of resin used.
    • Your wash data will not be appended to the existing print record. It will be logged as an unknown wash.
    • When offline, wash cycle time defaults to
      2 minutes.
    • Carbon does not recommend washing EPU 40 or EPU 41 parts when the part washer is offline as the wash cycle time exceeds the recommended cycle time for these resins.

CAUTION: If you wash the part more than once, your mechanical properties may be compromised.

Distillation Issues

There is significant amount of solvent remaining after distillation

  • Confirm thermocouple sensor remains in contact with soiled solvent during distillation.
  • Confirm that the seal on the distillation chamber is clean.
  • Adjust bag and make sure that it is making contact with the bottom of the distillation chamber.
  • Perform distillation again. If distillation is still unsuccessful, contact Carbon support.
