Switching Solvents

You may want to switch solvents at some point. The basic procedure for changing solvents is:
- Contact Customer Support to discuss changing solvents.
- Drain current, soiled solvent from Smart Part Washer.
- Fill Smart Part Washer with new, clean solvent.
- Contact Customer Support to confirm that the new solvent is loaded so Carbon can update your Smart Part Washer settings.
- This can take up to 2 business days.
- Run dummy wash for washer to activate new washing parameters.
- Customers can switch between VF 1 and DPM.
- Switching from DPM to VF1 requires an extra flushing step.

Switching from DPM:
- Container* large enough to contain 7.5 gallons of soiled Solvent A
- Container* with at least 7.5 gallons of New Solvent B
Switching from VF1:
- Custom distiller to receive soiled VF1 for distilling
- Container* with at least 7.5 gallons of New Solvent B

* Containers must conform to local regulations for handling liquid waste and/or solvents.
Switching solvents in your Smart Part Washer requires software upgrades to your printer and washer. The following software versions are required:
- Printer: v1.21 or later
- Smart Part Washer: v1.3.0-340.9 or later
As usual, software updates are pushed to your hardware and require opt-in through the browser.
Follow standard safety protocols as described in the Safety section.

Contact Customer Support
Contact Customer Support and communicate your desire to switch solvents.:
- Phone 1 (650) 285-6307, option #2.
A representative will help you prepare for the switch.
Drain current solvent
Follow standard draining process in Draining above.
- VF 1 needs to be drained into the distiller.
- DPM needs to be drained into container of at least 7.5 gallons.
Flushing DPM
Switching from DPM to VF 1, requires a flush between draining DPM and filling with VF 1.
- After draining soiled DPM solvent from washer, fill washer with clean DPM.
- Perform dummy wash with empty platform using Extreme wash cycle.
- Drain DPM.
The Smart Part Washer is now ready to be filled with the new solvent.
Contact Customer Support to update settings
Now that the Smart Part Washer is filled with the new solvent, the washer software needs to be configured for the new solvent.
Without this update, your Smart Part Washer will not function properly.
Contact Customer Support and communicate your new solvent choice:
- Phone 1 (650) 285-6307, option #2.
Customer Support will remotely update your Smart Part Washer settings to the new solvent.
This update can take up to 2 business days. In most cases it will be faster.
Dummy wash
Now that your washer has been made aware of the new solvent, the system needs to update its washing parameters. This is accomplished by running a dummy wash cycle with an empty platform.
- Activate the foot switch to raise the lid and expose the platform latch.
- Place an empty platform into the platform latch.
- As usual, the part washer will read the platform NFC tag and display the project name and print data specific to the last print project that the platform was used for.
- Select Start wash - Default to begin dummy wash cycle.
- The lid will automatically close and the wash cycle will begin.
- When the wash cycle is complete, raise lid and remove the empty platform.
- Confirm the solvent name in the upper right corner of the display has updated to reflect the new solvent.

Your Smart Part Washer is now ready to wash parts with the new solvent!
