Remesh
Remesh creates a new triangle mesh representation of your geometry with more regular triangles.
Remeshing may be useful if a poor-quality mesh is limiting your abilities in surface operations (eg, for texturing). Remeshing typically increases file size.
Patch Consistency Improve regularity across a patch for improved results in certain surface operations, such as tile texturing
Improve Mesh Quality Mesh of poor quality with a faceted surface can be improved
Remesh is intended for input models only; not recommended for generated models.
Remesh Patch
- Remesh can adjust a full model
- Or adjust a single patch
By remeshing a patch only where you need it, you can minimize increasing the file size.
Target edge size controls the size of the output triangles by defining how long the edges will be on average.
Edge Length The software aims for all remesh triangles to have the specified edge length: 1.5 mm in this example.
Edge Percentage The software aims for all remesh triangles to have the specified percentage of edge length / diagonal length of mesh bounding box.
The bounding box dimensions of the mesh can be found in the models's menu under View info.
In this example, the bounding box diagonal length is 150 mm. The edge percentage is set by dividing an edge length of 1.5 mm by the 150 mm diagonal length, for an edge percentage of 1% (the default value).
If you are unsure what edge size to select, use the default 1% Edge Percentage, which will provide good results for most geometries. Edge Length may be a better choice when you want triangles to subdivide nicely with known feature sizes.
Feature Edge Angle
Remeshing could adjust feature edges in ways that are not intended to get the best distribution of regular triangles.
To remedy unintended consequences, Design Engine's remeshing preserves feature edges. Any edge 30° degrees or greater is preserved by default.
The user can adjust the angle to be preserved. This can be useful if you intend to apply feature edge struts to your lattice design.
Number of Iterations
The number of iterations field specifies how many times to run the remeshing algorithm to find the best results.
The default is 10 iterations, balancing time, file size, and results for a mesh that is suitable in most cases. The user can adjust up to 100 iterations if default results are not desirable.
In this example, the default of 10 iterations yielded an area with less consistent triangle edge lengths, which improved by running more iterations.
