Part Washer Release Notes
The Part Washer can be used as part of DLS production to post-process printed parts.
Overview
This document describes changes included in Smart Part Washer software version w1.5.0-676.6. This optional version enables a “Production Mode” for the washer that prevents machine operators from running an unplanned wash cycle.
Change Details
When preparing a project via the Carbon Print Prep UI, users can select or upload a wash plan that dictates desired wash cycle(s) for that project. To start a wash, an operator at the Smart Part Washer presses a button on the machine’s touchscreen interface. If the washer is in Production Mode, the touchscreen will only allow the operator to start the prescribed wash plan. This is in contrast to “Standard Mode,” which presents the planned wash as the default/first option, but allows the user to select a different wash plan if desired. Production Mode may be useful for organizations that seek to closely control production conditions and limit unexpected actions that an operator may take. Additional notes about Production Mode:
- If no wash plan was selected during Print Preparation, only the Default wash plan will be available
- If a basket is used for off-platform washing, the user will first select the correct print from a list of recent prints (as is the case for Standard Mode); this will load the prescribed wash plan
- A Smart Part Washer in Standard Mode has the ability to function offline via pre-loaded wash programs. However, a washer in Production Mode must be able to contact Carbon’s cloud-based services to supply wash plan information for the relevant print. Thus, a washer that is in Production Mode will not function when it is unable to connect to Carbon’s cloud-based systems (eg, if it is offline)
Opting In to Production Mode
This is an optional software update that will not automatically be deployed to all Smart Part Washers. To request that a washer be placed into Production Mode, reach out to your Business Development Director or [email protected]. Note that a washer must either be in Production Mode or Standard Mode; modes are not “switchable” on a project-by-project or day-to-day basis.
Version Lock
Smart Part Washer w1.5.0-676.6 is designated as “lockable” in coordination with printer software v1.39. Carbon’s Version Lock program allows customers to keep designated hardware on a certain version of software, with full support, and opt out of ongoing software updates. If you would like to place your Smart Part Washer on Version Lock, please reach out to your Business Development Director or [email protected]. If you are on an older version of washer software, you will be required to update to w1.5.0-676.6 before locking.
Washer Update Protocols
In order to accept a software update, a washer must have its lid closed and may not have a platform installed. Please ensure that your washer is in this state before accepting any software update.

Overview
This document describes changes included in Smart Part Washer software version w1.5.0-676.5. This version contains a required patch that remediates a potential security vulnerability and protects the washer from malicious external attacks.
Change Details
During the course of a regular security audit, the Carbon software team discovered a security concern in Smart Part Washer software that could leave the washer vulnerable to a malicious attack. This security vulnerability has now been addressed. All Smart Part Washer customers will receive this update and should install it as soon as possible. There are no other changes to the Smart Part Washer at this time. This change does not include any alterations to washer function or user experience; the security change will be invisible to customers and operators.

Consistent washer gentle mode
Previously, due to how we calculated spin speed, washer gentle mode would spin at different speeds depending on the part. We have made the spin speed consistent across all gentle washes. If you would like to use the previous method to wash your project, you can still select the “Gentle Legacy” wash script in the Print Controls panel (Shift + P).
