# General Orientation & Support Information

## Hide the Platform

Use **Toggle platform** (or press **B**) to hide the platform before orienting parts. This will make it easier to see overhangs and place supports.

## Use Patch and Fence tools to create supports

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
### Patch tool

- The [Patch tool](docId\:VUbpoAitbLM11aM9-qJ1p) speeds up support creation by automatically supporting an area with just a few clicks. It is useful for supporting **larger areas** of overhang that would take longer to support manually.
- It is often useful to support your parts with this tool **before&#x20;**&#x6D;anually adding supports.

:::

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
### Fence tool

- [Fence supports](docId\:VUbpoAitbLM11aM9-qJ1p) are manually placed by the user and are best suited on **linear overhangs&#x20;**&#x6F;r smaller areas.&#x20;
  - Fences provide stability while leaving smaller nubs than the default Bars option.

## Orienting

:::hint{type="warning"}
**Because try-ins are organic surfaces with no well-defined flat areas, we do not recommend using Snap To Platform**.
:::

Proper orientation of denture try-ins is critical to achieving the required accuracy, detail, and surface quality.

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
Try-ins should be oriented a&#x74;**&#x20;90 degrees** to the platform with the anterior facing the platform.
:::

### Workflow

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1\. Click on **Orient** or **Shift + O** in the top bar in the printer interface.

2\. In the lower right corner of the bottom bar, turn on **Overhang Detection** or **V key** and set to **40 degrees.&#x20;**&#x41;reas that need support will appear <font color="#d32f4a">**red.**</font>

:::

:::
::::

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
3\. Orient the try-in so it is **about parallel to the platform.**

4\. Rotate the models **90 degrees with the anterior facing the platform.** The model should be standing vertically, perpendicular to the platform.

# Supporting

Users can support denture try-ins with patches, fences or a combination of the two. Carbon encourages you to experiment with both and use what works best for your geometries and workflow.

## Patch Support Workflow

### Enter Support Mode and Select Patch

:::hint{type="warning"}
**Do not use Automatic supports. This mode will cover a large portion of the intaglio surfaces, which will result in an unusable part.**
:::

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1. Click **Support&#x20;**(or press Shift + S) in the dark gray bar at the top of screen.
2. Under **Position**, select **Above Platform** to lift parts off the platform.
3. Under the **Manual tab** select **Patch.**
:::

:::VerticalSplitItem
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/carbon3d/image/upload/Education/Materials/dental/keydenture-try-in/keydenture-tryin-support-fence01.png)
:::
::::

### Patch Settings

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1. Click on an area needing support (shown in red by the overhang detection tool). The area will turn green once selected and the Patch settings will appear.
2. In the settings, increase the **Overhang** to **50º**.
3. Select **Fence&#x20;**&#x66;rom th&#x65;**&#x20;Primary Support Type** drop-down
4. Check the **Boundary Fence** box.

Leave all other settings at their defaults.
:::

:::VerticalSplitItem
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/carbon3d/image/upload/Education/Materials/dental/keydenture-try-in/Tryin-patch-settings01.png)
:::
::::

### Add Patch Supports

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1. Click on all additional areas requiring support. Previously selected areas will turn purple.
2. Click **Generate All.**
3. Confirm that adequate supports have been created.
:::

## Fence Support Workflow

Fences are ideal for supporting model walls that face the platform.

- Easy to remove.
- Contact points require less finishing.

:::hint{type="warning"}
**Do not use Automatic supports. This mode will cover a large portion of the intaglio surfaces, which will result in an unusable part.**
:::

### Enter Support Mode and Select Fence

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1. Click **Support&#x20;**(or press Shift + S) in the dark gray bar at the top of screen.
2. Under **Position**, select **Above Platform** to lift parts off the platform.
3. Under the **Manual tab** select **Fence.**

### Add Fence Supports

::::VerticalSplit{layout="middle"}
:::VerticalSplitItem
1. Click on <font color="#30C49A">**Fences**.</font>
2. Click a <font color="#FF9900">**series of points**</font> on the model to define the fence.
   - Use <font color="#05a9f4">**40º Overhang Detection**</font> to find areas that need support.
   - Fences are only required at the edges.
3. Click **ESC key** and then hold down **E key** to reposition points.
4. The <font color="#ff3399">**Support Attributes**</font> may be left in the default settings.
5. Click <font color="#6752ff">**GENERATE ALL**</font> to create the fence geometry.
6. Repeat as needed.

2. Under **Auto Layout,** select <font color="#32c49a">**Gen2.**</font>
   - Gen2 usually gives the most effecient packing for dental devices.
3. Enter at least <font color="#05a9f4">**1 mm**</font> in <font color="#05a9f4">**Padding.**</font>
   - Models require a minimum of 1 mm of space between them.
4. Leave **Optimize starting rotation** unchecked.
   - This leaves your parts in their previous orientations.
5. Leave **Allowed rotations** at the default setting.
   - This gives the software maximum flexibility to fit the most possible parts on the build platform.
6. Press the <font color="#ff9900">**Auto Layout** </font>button to arrange your parts.

- **Reducing the slice thickness by choosing the Fine (50 µ) or Super-fine (25 µ) settings will increase print time and may reduce part quality and accuracy.**

## Project Analysis

1. Select the <font color="#30c49a">**Project Analysis**</font> tab.
2. Click **Start Analysis** and wait for the processing to complete.
   - **Note the required resin volume and print time.**
3. Click **Add to Queue.**
