# Overview

Like all equipment, the **AO Backpack **needs regular maintenance to remain in good working condition.

:::hint{type="warning"}
Adjusting, removing, reconfiguring, or otherwise tampering with any components that are not explicitly flagged here for user maintenance is strongly discouraged, as it can lead to hardware damage and prolonged and costly periods of machine downtime.

If you have any questions about what is and is not off-limits, please contact [Carbon Support.](mailto\:support@carbon3d.com)
:::

The sections below are organized by the frequency of the maintenance tasks.

# 3 Months

## Resin Hose Inspection

- Inspect the resin hose for leaks or damage.
- Pay particular attention to the section of hose that runs through the pump.
- If the hose is damaged, a replacement can be ordered from the [Carbon Shop.](https://shop.carbon3d.com/collections/accessories)
 - See [Resin Hose Replacement](docId\:s3t7TIa7TXtmtbEoGr8TF) below for installation instructions.

## Resin Hose Inline Filter Inspection

Check the inline filter for excessive debris or particulate matter that could obstruct resin flow.

1\. Open the resin cabinet.

2\. Remove the cover from the top of the resin cabinet and place it to the side.

3\. Disconnect the quick disconnect from the resin tank.

::Image[]{src="https://res.cloudinary.com/carbon3d/image/upload/v1730157979/Education/Automatic-Operation-Suite/AO%20Backpack/Maintenance/Quick-release-remove01.png" size="70" width="2641" height="1288" position="flex-start" showCaption="false"}

## Resin Tank Refill

There are two options for refilling an empty resin tank:

- Use resin from 55 gallon drum of DPR 10 equipped with the DPR 10 Drum Pump
- Use resin from multiple plastic containers

:::hint{type="info"}
**Go to **[DPR 10 Drum Pump](docId\:qgBerRo1oUIm3w87Vokb7)** for resin dispensing information.**
:::

### 55 gallon Drum with DPR 10 Drum Pump

The resin tank can be refilled directly at the Drum Pump.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Carbon recommends placing the resin tank on a stable surface during dispensing as the tank will become quite heavy as it fills.**
:::

### Plastic Containers

Chemical resistant plastic containers can also be used to fill the resin tank. These can be 3.2 L bottles of new DPR 10 resin purchased directly from Carbon or bottles that are filled at the DPR 10 Drum Pump and then poured into the resin tank.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Filling the resin tank requires approximately six 3.2 L bottles of resin and 10 minutes.**

## Resin Cabinet Cleaning

Residual resin may gather on the resin cabinet.

1. Disconnect the resin tank from the resin hose and remove from the resin cabinet.
2. Clean any residual resin from cabinet surfaces with blue towels and IPA.
 - Use care when cleaning the resin tank shelf to avoid damaging the scale mechanism housed within it.

:::hint{type="danger"}
**Do not use acetone as this will damage painted surfaces.**
:::

## Resin Tank Cleaning

Over time, residual resin will gather on the resin tanks.

1. Disconnect the quick release connector from the resin tank.
2. Remove the resin tank from the resin cabinet.
3. Clean any residual resin from the outside of the tank with blue towels and IPA.
4. Unscrew the straw assembly cap.
5. Lift the straw assembly to expose the screw threads on the resin tank.
6. Clean the screw threads with blue towels only.
 - Do not use any solvents as this may contaminate the resin and may affect part quality.
7. Screw the straw assembly cap back onto the resin tank.
8. Place the resin tank back onto the shelf in the resin cabinet.
9. Reconnect the quick release connector to the quick release nozzle.
